Take Action Today to Reduce Vision Loss Tomorrow
Adages. We roll our eyes when we hear them as youngsters, and as adults we shake our heads with regret. But really listen to these pieces of advice and one can’t argue with the sage wisdom.
“An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”
“Better safe than sorry.”
“Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.”
But the one that hits home with me is, “An ounce of prevention equals a pound of cure.”
Every day I treat patients who have suffered from vision loss. Do you know what has been identified as the leading cause of blindness?
Now, I know that not all cases of diabetes are preventable. However, if you maintain good blood sugar control you will significantly reduce the risk of diabetes and vision loss. Additionally, having a dilated eye exam at least once a year to aid in early detection and treatment of ocular complications will further reduce the risk of vision loss.
Which brings me to my favorite adage: “If I have seen further, it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants.”
I’d love for you to join me for the view.
